Save Miss Belle’s Tea Room

An Update

On June 19, 2023, the historic McKeithan House, known in Cameron and all of Moore County as Miss Belles Tea Room, was demolished.

Our community worked so hard to help save this structure, which was designated as historic at both state and federal levels. We believe this outcome is truly heartbreaking. Working heavily with the town and citizens of Cameron on helping them establish their Historic District Overlay Zone, The Pines Preservation Guild became well acquainted with this building. It’s architectural integrity and historic significance made it truly unique in the county and the loss of an entire structure of irreplaceable and salvageable historic material is devastating.

With any historic structure, rehabilitation is always the option we work for, with moving or salvage being the next best options. With Miss Belle’s we hoped that moving this building would be the best-case scenario. Demolition is rarely, if ever appropriate for any historic structure, particularly for one with so much local significance.

The Pines Preservation Guild remains committed to our mission of assisting Moore county’s communities and property owners to preserve their historic structures through education, dialogue, and creative solutions.

We will be leaving this page up as a reminder of the history of this structure, and the efforts of the local community to preserve a structure that helped define their town.
